International Travel
Three years after the island nation stopped offering the service owing to Covid, India and Sri Lanka have restored airline service between Chennai and Jaffna. Not only is this a good move to revive the tourism sector of debt riddled Sri Lanka, it is also good news for Indian travellers. Sri Lanka offers Indian tourists multiple options of travel ranging from adventure, cultural, spiritual and even affordable luxury. I, for one am a great advocate of travel to Sri lanka as it is one place where I feel i can enjoy luxury travel without feeling an enormous pinch. The reason for that is two pronged; a stonger Indian rupee against Sri lankan rupee and more value for every rupee spent as compared to India.
If you travel to any southern coastal city in India during winters, chances are that the prices will be too high and the quality of service will not be comparable to what you will get in Sri Lanka. The island has a better interstate road network, making long distance travel easier as compared to India. Being a much smaller country the distances between two places of interest are also much less compared to India. In my opinion Sri Lanka is safer for women travellers and people are more respectful towards tourist than India.
Coming back to cost comparisions, hiring a beach villa is usually one fourth the cost of hiring one in Goa or Cochi. Also the global vibes of places like Hikkaduwa or Galle is comparable to India or any tropical coastal town.
I love shopping in Sri Lanka. They have a robust textile industry with a great handloom sector contribution. Design is elemental in the island nation which has been home to some of the most creative individuals in modern era. Establishments like Barefoot, The Three by TPV, Stick No Bills, KK by George offer quirky stuff that can pull in the most averse shoppers into the store. If you crave a unique decor piece that could be a conversation starter, then head to the bylanes of the dutch town in Galle to find one. If you wish to wrap ypurself with designerwear that screams kitsch, then explore the little boutiques that offer unique styles. Your Indian rupee goes a long way in Sri lanka and you feel rich while browsing through the store, mentally converting the currency.
