Adventure Women India (AWI) is a community that encourages women to be Active & Adventurous. An important part of the community's mission is assisting its members in becoming more self-assured, allowing them to take control of their own lives and decisions. AWI community has a collective positive strength of 1 lakh 50 thousand members behind them and is active throughout India. A devoted staff of eager and motivated volunteers supports AWI's nation wide reach through its network of 21 local city chapters across India and 2 international chapters in Mauritius and Bhutan. Adventure women India provides a safe and trust worthy environment for women to step out of their traditional safe zones of family and friends and forge new meaningful connections within the sisterhood of the community. The community provides a secure ecosystem of peers, influencers, and experts for its members to engage freely, allowing them to interact without fear of being judged.
AWI began as a small effort to connect likeminded women by traveller and adventure seeker Minal Mathur and television journalist Anjilee Istwal. The idea was to create a safe and welcoming environment for women to share their experiences and seek support. It began as a private Facebook group in 2019 and has since grown into a sisterhood of women from all walks of life. AWI has a robust network of small localised communities with both online and offline presence.
This unique ability to connect women has been recognised internationally, and Facebook has chosen AWI to be a partner in its Community Accelerator Program to assist them in turning impactful ideas into action. AWI is receiving growth-related training, on-the-job mentoring, and funding to help them expand their community and impact. In the near future, the community hopes to become a one-stop shop for all of its members' travel needs. Currently, AWI empanels/certifies tourist industry players such as tour operators and hotels, among others, after conducting due diligence, providing members with a pool of safe and secure vendors from which to choose. In addition to its regular meet-ups for coffee and conversation, the community organises on-the-ground events to encourage women to get together and participate in adventure activities. The members' enthusiasm is enabling AWI in transforming an idea into a revolution.
